Desktop Power Adapters: Specify the AC Cord Set in Your RFQ
Make desktop adapter quotations comparable by defining the AC inlet, destination plug, cord-set documentation, length and supply scope.
Separate the adapter from its mains connection
A desktop adapter quotation should say whether the detachable AC cord set is included. A product photograph or the phrase "US plug" leaves too much open for a purchase order. Treat the adapter and its mains connection as two identified items, even when they will be packed and priced as one kit.
Start with the exact adapter model and AC inlet shown on its approved drawing. Ask the supplier to identify the mating cord connector and the wall-plug configuration for the destination. Keep this AC-side specification separate from the DC output cable that connects the adapter to your equipment.
Review the complete cord set, not just the plug
Interpower's cord-selection guide describes a cord set as cable with a plug at one end and a connector at the other. Its selection process considers the destination, required electrical rating, cable and equipment-side connector. It also explains that the lowest-rated component limits the assembly rating. A rating molded on the wall plug therefore does not establish the rating of the complete cord set.
Ask your technical reviewer to approve the complete assembly for the proposed adapter and installation. Record the supplier's assembly part number and datasheet rather than estimating suitability from the adapter's output wattage or a photograph. Request the applicable documentation for the United States and Canada separately when both are destination markets. Have the responsible reviewer confirm the required scope; this article does not assign approvals to any Voltivo Power model or cord.
Use an AC-side brief with explicit open items
The following fields make a useful attachment to a desktop-adapter RFQ. If a field is undecided, mark it "supplier proposal requested" instead of letting an assumption become an order requirement.
- Adapter reference
- Full model, revision and AC inlet designation or approved drawing.
- Cord-set identity
- Proposed assembly part number, plug and mating connector references, and supporting datasheet.
- Technical review
- Declared assembly ratings, cable specification, destination countries and documents to be checked by the responsible reviewer.
- Physical arrangement
- Finished length with measurement endpoints and tolerance, straight or angled exit, and installation-clearance drawing.
- Commercial scope
- Quantity per adapter, included or separately priced, packing arrangement and approved substitution process.
Compare included and excluded accessories explicitly
Imagine two quotations for the same requested adapter configuration. Offer A lists an adapter only; Offer B includes one specified cord set in each box. Comparing their headline prices would not compare the same delivery. Ask both suppliers to show the adapter price, cord-set reference and quantity, packing charge if any, and the total for the requested kit.
For an angled connector, attach a sketch showing the intended cable exit and nearby surfaces. Ask for confirmation against the proposed assembly drawing before buying samples. An informal description such as "right angle" should not be the only record of the orientation your installation needs.
These are purchasing examples, not Voltivo Power prices, packing commitments or promises of accessory availability.
Close the loop with the sample and repeat order
Keep the sample's adapter model, cord-set part number and drawing revisions together. Have the assigned reviewers record fit, routing and document-review results against the intended installation. Resolve discrepancies before approving the production specification, and retain a clear photograph of the accepted combination for receiving checks.
Make the approved cord reference visible on repeat orders. If a supplier proposes a different assembly, route it back for the appropriate review instead of accepting "equivalent cable" as a complete change description.
For a desktop-adapter inquiry with Voltivo Power, send your required output, AC inlet preference or current model reference, destination countries, cord requirements and estimated quantity. Ask us to identify the proposed configuration and included accessories in the quotation. Cord availability, supporting documents, sample terms and lead time need confirmation for that configuration.
